GoEnglish.com Pocket English Idioms

GoEnglish.com Pocket English Idioms is a nice site and the site has an Idioms index. I like the way the site looks, take a look at Birds of a feather flock together or You Can’t Judge A Book By Its Cover.

BBC Languages offers many online courses

The BBC website has a really interesting section titled BBC Languages. You find courses in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Greek, Chinese as well as some other languages.
There is an online course titled Mi Vida Loca which is Spanish for beginners, I think I will try that one.

Take a spelling test

Daily Writing Tips has created Spelling Test 1. I tried it and got 95%, I am pleased with that since English is my second language.

Definr fast dictionary

In a post at dailybits.com I found Definr, ‘definr - incredibly fast dictionary’. Definr is a neat and fast way to find out what words mean.
There is also a search extension to Firefox, that makes it even easier to use Definr.

Using Google as dictionary

I often use Google as an English-English dictionary, there is an easy way to search dictionaries. Simply type
define: thewordyoulookfor
then click and you get a list of text from dictionaries.

The Phrase Finder

While searching for some phrases I found The Phrase Finder. There presentation says:
Whether you want to resolve a friendly argument over how a saying or phrase originated or whether you just enjoy words, you’ll probably find something here to interest you.
There are also Well-known misquotations and Popular Fallacies.

Acronyms and abbreviations

Have you ever wondered what the … an acronym or abbreviation stands for? Go to Acronym Finder which contains more than 3 million acronyms and abbreviations.

Sniglets

Sniglets are defined as words that don’t appear in the dictionary, but should. I have a book with Sniglets and I found a website with Sniglets. Have fun

Idioms and phrases

Idioms and phrases is a great place. It is compiled from the Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms and the Cambridge Dictionary of American Idioms. The Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms explains over 7,000 idioms current in British, American and Australian English.
The Idioms-dictionary is part of TheFreeDictionary.com.
